Contrary to popular belief, when it comes to facial skin, “Black can crack.” Protecting your skin from the harsh rays of the sun is important if you’re concerned about making sure your skin looks its best. Though people with more melanin in their skin tend to have a bit more sun protection due to the color of their skin, black and brown people still need sunscreen. But, it’s not always easy to find sunscreen that actually works for brown skin and doesn’t leave a white cast. Finding a brand that is non toxic can make shopping for this product even more daunting. But I’ve come across a sunscreen I really like that I want to share, it’s called: Black Girl Sunscreen (with an SPF of 30). No more weird white cast to your sunscreen! What a joy to purchase a sun protection product that was made for women like me. It’s sad that this is so groundbreaking, but it is. This sheer sunscreen works great as a facial moisturizer with sun protection worn on its own or layered under make-up. It has moisturizing ingredients like carrot seed oil, cocoa seed butter, and avocado oil.

Black Girl Sun Screen is also free from fragrance, oxybenzone, and octinoxate. It is also formulated without parabens, phthalates, triclosan, or any of the twenty other toxic ingredients banned on Blk + Grn’s Toxic Twenty List (FYI: Blk + Grn is a go-to market place for nontoxic products made by people of color). I actually purchased my Black Girl Sunscreen from Blk + Grn.

Do yourself a favor an invest in purchasing your own. With the warm temperatures in many parts of the U.S. right around the corner for Spring and Summer, it’s a great time to invest in and start using sunscreen on a daily basis!
